In the early 1950s, when the helicopter was completed, many countries around the world started to research and manufacture, but most helicopters only do transport, scouting, evacuation. Later, the United States saw the military need a high-powered helicopter

After acquiring Hughes Helicopters in 1984 for $ 500 million, McDonnell Douglas took over and accelerated the AH-64 production program. In April 1986, the AH-64 was officially put on service in the United States Army. And after McDonnell Douglas merged with Boeing in 1997, production continued to be maintained by Boeing Defense, Space & Security. Up until now, more than 2,000 AH-64 Apache variants have been shipped.

In addition to the United States, the AH-64 is also manufactured under license in the United Kingdom by AgustaWestland Apache (WAH-64 version) and in Japan by Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) (version AH-64DJ)
