The family of 17-year-old Ulysses Wilkerson wants answers after he was left suffering trauma to the brain, a cracked eye socket, and swelling on the brain after an encounter with Troy, Alabama police. Images of the teen’s severe injuries have been shared over ten thousand times on Facebook, and the story is gaining traction online.

It has been reported that Wilkerson fled from officers trying to speak to him as he came around a building in downtown Troy. Brittany Patterson, who drove by the scene, said she saw officers surrounding what appeared to be an unconscious Wilkerson. She explained, “You could see the swelling of his face you could tell he had a lot of bleeding. He looked like he was passed out or maybe in and out of consciousness.”

Wilkerson’s father is demanding that bodycam footage of the incident be released, and he added that all charges against his son, who was never arrested, were dropped. Ulysses Wilkerson Jr. said, “They had him handcuffed when we got in there they said he was charged with obstruction of justice the ambulance came to take him to UAB the took the handcuffs off and dropped the charges on him.”

The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the use of force by the Troy Police Department.
